Old Barney and Crabby McCrabpants

Can I just say how much I love custom orders? I love the ideas that folks come up with, and the stories behind why they choose that particular item. I thrive on the challenge of designing and perfecting a pattern and then completing the plush.

I just completed this set of plushies for an alchemy request on etsy. These are going to be a belated birthday gift for their mother. The Lighthouse was designed after Barnegat Lighthouse in NJ - it's nickname is Old Barney so they requested a moustache face....I think it was the perfect choice! I added some glitter to the light part of the house - you can't really see it well in this picture but it looks awesome in person - trust me! I also whipped up a little orange crab buddy for the lighthouse. The crab was more difficult than I thought, as I struggled with making it realistic or cartoony. I settled on a mix of the 2 and couldn't be happier.

I used to go on vacation to the Outer banks with the fam back when I was in high school. I'm thinking that I might try and recreate plush versions of all the lighthouses we visited down there now ^_^

Memorial Day

Let's take some time today to remember those who have lost their lives while serving in the military, those who served, and those who are still actively serving.

Retail Therapy Cures All

So, last week was a really yucky week for me at work...I'm inches away from burn-out. To treat myself for not poking my eyes out with a pen, I went over to Schmancy's website and ordered some cuties that I have been eyeing for awhile. Aren't they cute?? They are guaranteed to make anyone smile.

I'm so good to myself ^_^

8 = Great

I have really been slacking in my attention to my blog...but I have a good excuse - I have been hard at work on some of the coolest custom requests ever. pictured above is a little octo I did - I really thing that the "suction cups" on the underside of the tenticles really makes it!

Like I said, I have some really interesting stuff in my queue, and I'll share with the class as soon as they are designed and completed ^_^

Etsy Plush Team Storybook/Fairytale project - Little Red Riding Hood and the Wolf

I made these little guys for the Etsy Plush Team Favorite Storybook/Fairytale project. We were each paired up with another member of the team, and had to create a plush based on your partner's favorite fairytale.

My partner, imagingermonkey said that her favorite fairytale was Little Red Riding Hood. Two things come to my mind when I think of that story - Little Red riding Hood herself and the wolf - so, as you can see, I decided to create both of them.

They are both done in amigurumi crochet. Little Red Riding Hood's red hood is removable and ties with a black satin ribbon. For her hair, I hand stitched each strand of yarn into her head and seperated the pieces to make it more full and wavy. I gave her brown hair...even though my husband insists that she should have been a blond ^_^

The Wolf looks like his mother mated with an Ewok. Don't let his uber cute looks fool you though...he'd eat your grandmother without batting an eye! He is crocheted with both a piece of acrylic yarn and a piece of boa fur so he is super soft and fluffy.

Check out the Etsy Plush Team Blog to see some of the awesome plushies by fellow team members came up with! And of course, these little guys are up for sale in my etsy shop ^_^
